IMSA: CTMP Race Report

Just one week after a successful triple-car campaign at Imola for the European Le Mans Series, Inter Europol Competition travelled across the Atlantic for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), fielding the #43 Oreca in the LMP2 category with Tom Dillmann and IMSA rookie Jeremy Clarke.

Clarke qualified the car P4 and took the start of the 2-hour 40-minute race, delivering a composed and consistent opening stint. Holding his own in the fast-paced LMP2 field, he handed the car over to Dillmann with 1 hour 24 minutes remaining, still in P4.

Dillmann immediately impressed with excellent pace and decisive moves through traffic. In a stunning sequence, he surged from P4 to the race lead in the space of a lap, making the most of strategy and momentum.

With 30 minutes to go, a safety car bunched the field back up. Dillmann executed a strong restart and retained the lead — but heartbreak struck with under 20 minutes remaining. A mechanical issue caused him to lock up and lose control of the car, sending the #43 into the barriers.

While the incident brought a premature end to what had been a promising and competitive run, the team was reassured that Dillmann was cleared after precautionary medical checks. He will now take some time to recover, and the team wishes him well as they look ahead to the next round.

The cause of the issue is under investigation, but confidence remains high in the car’s pace and potential.

Testing at Silverstone and Portimao
Alongside its busy race schedule, Inter Europol Competition has also been hard at work behind the scenes, with productive test days this month at both Silverstone and Portimao. These sessions provided valuable mileage across the LMP2 and LMP3 programmes, allowing the team to continue developing setups and systems ahead of the second half of the season. With Spa-Francorchamps and Silverstone coming up on the ELMS and Le Mans Cup calendars, the team is focused on fine-tuning performance and building momentum across all entries.

Looking ahead, the team returns to IMSA competition this weekend at Road America, where BMW factory driver Connor De Phillippi will join Jeremy Clarke in the No. 43 Oreca LMP2 following Tom Dillmann’s injury at CTMP. The pair will take on a strong field in the sprint-format race as the IMSA season enters its final stages.

Later in the month, Inter Europol Competition heads back to Europe for Round 4 of the European Le Mans Series at Spa-Francorchamps on 24 August. With its fast, flowing layout and unpredictable conditions, Spa promises to be a key battleground as the team fights for points in both LMP2 and LMP3. The Michelin Le Mans Cup also returns at Spa, with the team’s Ligier LMP3 entry set to rejoin the grid after a break in the calendar.
