Two cars in the top five, second in the championship

16 May 2021

With two cars in the top five, this weekend at the Red Bull Ring in the second race of the European Le Mans Series was a good one for the Inter Europol Competition team.

The #14 Ligier LMP3 started from 9th and the #13 LMP3 from 16th. Both cars took a drive-through penalty in the first hour for abusing track limits but were still in the top 10. When the rain came in the third hour of the race, both cars were in the top five. After the race went green again and a pit stop, the #13 was in 6th place and the #14 in 7th. In the last hour, both cars moved up two places. The #13 finished fourth and the #14 fifth. The Inter Europol Competition team is second in the championship.

#14 Mattia Pasini: “Just out of the podium, but I am very happy about the work this weekend. We were very fast, and we all did a good job. We took a drive-through penalty which for sure costs us the fighting for the podium. During my stint, I sure enjoyed the overtaking. Hopefully next time we will have the opportunity to fight for the podium.”

#14 Mateusz Kaprzyk: “The performance was very good. P5 is ok when you start from P9. We had good pace, but I was hoping for a bit more. I was happy with the car and just happy with everything.”

#14 Gustas Grinbergas: “So close, yet so far. It was fun driving. Especially as I was called in at the last moment. It was an interesting last hour of the race. With the strategy we had today we reached the maximum of what we could have. The car was good, and I enjoyed the weekend.”

#13 Martin Hippe: “It was the maximum that was possible today. Starting from the last place on the grid, we did a good job. The stint from Ulysse was great, as was Ugo’s. I was happy with the car today and with the setup. In my first stint I could push but my second stint in the rain, it was hard. The downpour was more like in Malaysia and it was all about keeping the car on the track. But happy with the result.”

#13 Ulysse De Pauw: “I think we can be happy with the result as we had problems during the practice sessions. This morning I was not thinking about the podium, but we nearly got there. And we had a drive-through for track limits, which did not help in reaching the podium. The team did a good job. We are still away from perfection, but we will improve.”

#13 Ugo de Wilde: “I think it is a good result, considering where we started. We can still improve in some areas and hope to do so at Le Castellet. Fourth is not the nicest place, but it was the most we could have achieved.”

Sascha Fassbender (Team Manager): “It was a good weekend being P4 and P5 in a very strong field and with many ups and downs. It was a bit of a chaotic race with the rain half-way. For the 13 it was the best possible finish as it started from the last place on the grid. Strategic we were spot on with letting Ulysse start the race, then Martin for his double stint and Ugo for the last hour. We are happy with a very good fifth place for the 14. The race pace was really good, but we were a bit unlucky with the safety car. With a little bit of luck and no drive-throughs, we could have been on the podium. Next stop is Le Castellet where we will push as usual.”
