Several technical problems reared their ugly head in the first free practice session of the Le Mans 24 Hours race week. And during the only 18 laps that the Inter Europol Competition #34 Oreca LMP2 was on track, there were two long red flag periods and many more full course yellows. P21 was the result.

In qualifying, the team had to be happy with 18^th place on the grid in 3m30s908 (places 9 to 18 were all within one second). Alex Brundle put in all his efforts to overcome the first free practice problems, but to make matters worse, also had to deal with a slow puncture and lots of traffic.

In the second free practice, all problems had disappeared, and Alex Brundle, Renger van der Zande and Kuba Smiechowski finished in eighth place.

Alex Brundle: “It was a difficult first day of the race week. Some minor mechanical issues stopped us from getting the car where we wanted it to be. Then traffic and yellows in qualifying finished the job, so we are not starting where we would like to, in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But luckily it is the longest race of the year. Our race pace in night practice seems to be very strong. So, we put ourselves a bit on the back foot. But fighting back is not a problem over 24 hours.”
