Positive two days of testing
27 April 2021
After two days of testing before the TOTAL 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, Kuba Smiechowski, Alex Brundle, and Renger van der Zande in the Inter Europol Competition #34 Oreca LMP2 were not unhappy with the result. On the second day in the afternoon session, the team finished in 4th place.
?
Sascha Fassbender: ?I am quite satisfied after the two days. Considering the circumstances with the late homologation change from high downforce to low downforce. Due to our change from Ligier to Oreca last winter, we had no experience with the low downforce package until Monday. All the data collected during the tests in preparation for the season is more or less useless. Of course, teams that already have experience from the past are at an advantage here. On day one we had a few small problems and had to work out the baseline first. At the end of day two, we finished on P4. The drivers are working great together and the whole team is highly motivated for the first season in the WEC. We are all looking forward to Saturday and the race.?
?
Alex Brundle: ?We had a much better day today with considerable progress on the car. Everyone on the team is responding extremely well to the challenge of the world of the WEC and the change to the Oreca.?
?
Renger van der Zande: ?Coming from the Barcelona test, we are learning a lot, especially with a changed set-up. Having an extra Monday and Tuesday testing is a bit of a gift going into the weekend. It?s nice to be able to compare with others and to see where we are. This gives an extra element of competition. Now we are getting ready for the weekend.?
?
Kuba Smiechowski: ?I am learning a lot in a short couple of days. Getting to know the car with a different set-up, seeing the competition is good but difficult. On the whole, it has been good and challenging but not easy.?
