Last race done in Europe, now to Asia

3 November 2019

The Inter Europol Competition team finished the last race of the Ultimate Cup Series in 8th place. The team now is looking forward to Asia, to the challenge to defend their title in the LMP3 class.

Paul Scheuschner took the start and was going to be the only one going out on slicks when with five minutes to spare the team changed the slicks to rain tyres. And with good cause. When the 5 minutes board went up it started to rain and storm. Race started behind the safety car.

The third driver this weekend, besides Scheuschner and Edward Jonasson (who missed the last race at Magny Cours) was Sebastiaan Bleekemolen. Bleekemolen finished second in the Clio Cup Central Europe and won a test in the LMP3. As like Tomas Pekar who joined the team at Magny Cours, Bleekemolen chose the option to join the team for a race.

After the first pitstop Scheuschner, who started from 9th, fell back to 12th. In the second hour during the pit stop, the #14 Ligier LMP3 continued on slicks. Scheuschner handed the car to Bleekemolen in 5th place. Bleekemolen fell back to 11th but moved up to 8th at the end of the third hour and handed the car in 6th place with 37 minutes to go to Jonasson. Jonasson drove the car over the finish line in 8th place.

Paul Scheuschner: “We had a good strategy today. The last-minute decision to start on rain tyres instead of the slicks was a very good one. When we changed back to slicks in the first pit stop it was the right decision again, even though in some places it was difficult as the track was drying out”.

Sebastiaan Bleekemolen: “It was my first experience in an LMP3. It took a little while to get used to the car but luckily it was not very busy and I quickly found my rhythm. It was a great experience, also because of the downforce, which is quite new to me to. You can break late, about 20 to 30 meters later than in my Clio. I kept the car in one piece and I really enjoyed the experience.”

Edward Jonasson: “This year has been a good learning year from me. It had the ups and down you expect. My goal was to learn more about longdistance racing, how to manage the tyres and the pitstops. So even if the result this race was not great, I did enjoy the whole year and every race very much.”
