Inter Europol Competition are IMSA bound!

13 October 2023

24 Hours of Le Mans winner joins forces with IMSA champions PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports for LMP2 title attack.

Inter Europol Competition is to compete in the full IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2024, having forged a new partnership with the ultra-successful PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports squad.

The Polish-based team, which made global headlines this summer following its superb Centenary LMP2 class victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is adjusting its race programme next year to race in North America whilst retaining its European roots in both LMP2 and LMP3 competition.

Ahead of this weekend’s Motul Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta, the team is delighted to confirm its participation in the full seven-round 2024 IMSA LMP2 calendar, starting with the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona International Speedway in January. The team will be known as Inter Europol by PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports.

Jakub (Kuba) Śmiechowski is confirmed as the team’s Silver-graded driver for the endurance rounds while the squad looks at options for his mandated Bronze and Pro teammates.

Inter Europol Competition was formed in 2010 and has developed into a major force in sportscar racing. Based in Warsaw, Poland, the 24 Hours of Le Mans winning team has raced this year in the FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series, Le Mans Cup, Asian Le Mans Series and Ultimate Cup.

It is currently in championship contention for title success in both the European Le Mans Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Established in 1990 and headquartered in Fresno, California, PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports boasts a history of multiple championship titles. Since entering the American Le Mans Series in 2010, the team has consistently achieved success, culminating in four WeatherTech Sportscar Team Championships and five Michelin Endurance Cup Championships. Notably, the team secured three consecutive Michelin Endurance Cup Championships from 2020 to 2022, solidifying its dominance in the racing arena.

Sascha Fassbender, Inter Europol Competition, Team Manager
“PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports has proven over many years that it’s a very strong team in IMSA. They have won the championship, and for us, it was a logical step to work with them in an IMSA partnership.

“I am really looking forward to this journey. Our partnership with PR1 allows us to hit the ground running, and we will be competitive from the very first day.

“So, we’re delighted to confirm that we have signed with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports owner Bobby Oergel for the 2024 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. Kuba will compete in the five endurance races as the Silver-graded driver. We are now talking with Pro and Bronze drivers with a view of fighting for the championship from the very start.”

Ray Mathiasen and Bobby Oergel Team Principals for PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports
“We are delighted to welcome Inter Europol to our IMSA WeatherTech Championship LMP2 program. The success they have achieved, and continue to experience, is promising for our shared future. The collaboration between our teams opens up exciting possibilities, leveraging the strengths of both sides to achieve even greater success together.”
