Dramatic ending to the season
28 October 2019
Nigel Moore and Martin Hippe brought the Inter Europol Competition #13 LMP3 in second place over the finish line in the last race of the ELMS, assuring the team of the win of the 2019 European Le Mans Series and an entry to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Or so it was thought.
A nine lap penalty was given to the #13 car for not respecting the minimum driving time of Martin Hippe, the bronze driver.
This meant we finished the race in 11th place and second in the championship.
The team is appealing the steward’s decision (#19) and the amended result is provisional and subject to an appeal hearing.
Michael Keese (team director): “I am happy and proud that the whole team through hard and honest work and good sporting behaviour, finished the season with a provional second place. From our point of view we finished the season with success. Everything that is happening now is in the hands of lawyers. Supported by the knowledge that we have always displayed honest and sportive behaviour, we look forward to a positive outcome.”
