Inter Europol by PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports head to Indianapolis for the penultimate round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with a 27-point lead in the LMP2 championship standings.

Recent races have been something of a rollercoaster, with the team first securing its first podium (Watkins Glen) – its first race victory in the series (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) – and then back down to earth with a bump at Road America.

Through it all, though, the team has minimised the damage on days when a race for the win was not possible, which has been crucial in the fight for the championship. A 27-point advantage sounds quite a lot in European terms, but in the US-based championship, it’s a wafer-thin margin as 100 points cover the top four runners.

This week, Nick Boulle and Tom Dillmann are joined by Kuba Smiechowski, who has had to sit out the recent sprint events. The former leads the Jim Trueman award and is – as ever – charged with qualifying and starting duties in what is a six-hour race, which gets underway Sunday at 11:40 ET, 17:40 CET.

“We’re coming to the ‘money time’ of both championships and we are leading both together with the Endurance Cup. It shows we have been doing things correctly with pace and risk management up to this point. I don’t see any reason to change, and my point of view is that we still have room for improvement, and we are getting more solid every race. I look forward to racing at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time.”

Nick Boulle
“I’m looking forward to getting back in the car. Indianapolis means short laps, and it will be especially physical, but it should suit us well. Each race, we continue to make gains with the car, and this is a circuit I have raced at in the past, and we even had a short test there this year, which is good.”

“We made some mistakes this year at Road America, but overall, this year has really been a dream come true for me. I have probably done more racing this year than any other over the last decade. There are some thoughts on next year, but for me, the focus is on the final two rounds and, of course, the championship!”

Kuba Smiechowski
“Ahead of us is another IMSA race – at the legendary Indianapolis – this year’s championship is special for me because it is held at legendary American tracks, where you can feel the legacy of motorsport.

“We are the leaders of the classification, and we are successively implementing the plan we set for ourselves – I won’t hide the fact that we have an appetite to win. We have a great car set up; Nick and Tom are really fast, so we have everything we need. Of course, the race is six hours long, so a lot can happen.”
