No chance to shine in the either Road to Le Mans race

15 June 2019

Race 1             In the first of the two 55 minute races of the Road to Le Mans, the #13 LMP3 with gentlemen drivers Simon Phillips and Philippe Bourgois, started from 43rd place overall and 28th in LMP3. In the formation lap Phillips, who started in the race, got pushed by the Bentley and spun, which resulted in a little damage and a large gap to the rest of the field. Half way the session just before a long red flag period, Phillips moved upto 39th position overall and 25th in LMP3. During the safety car period, all cars came in for the driver change, only the safety car remained on track. Bourgois took the chequered flag in 34th position overall and 22nd in LMP3 class.

Simon Phillips:“It was such a shame that I got pushed by the Bentley. I would like to have had more time on track, but then, we all have to deal with not having enough. But I had a really good time out there and look forward to the race on Saturday morning.”

Philippe Bourgois:“I really enjoyed this experience, despite all the yellows and the safety car period. I am slowly getting into the rhythm of the track, so I am looking forward to do more track time on Saturday morning.”

Race 2             In the second of the Road to Le Mans race, Phillips and Bourgois started from 39thplace overall. All went well till Bourgois braked too late and landed in the gravel. He got lifted out and could continue. Phillips took over but could not improve the end result. He took the chequered flag in 43rdplace.

Simon Phillips:“The build up from Wednesday has been great. The team, as always faultless. I didn’t really hit the ground running as I hadn’t been in the car for two months and that was a big mistake on my part. I’ll be back next year and will give the performance Inter Europol Competition deserves.”

Philippe Bourgois:“The opportunity of being here is so amazing that I think I was too optimistic and too enthusiastic. The start went well. Then unfortunately in the fourth lap I tried to enter corner number one flat out and spun when I started braking and landed in the gravel. I had to wait to be taken out of the gravel. It was a fabulous experience, even being airlifted out of the gravel. The team did a great job and I thank them for this. Like Simon, I should have been in the car before this race. That is something I will do better next year. What a great experience this have been.”
