Back to back races at Spa

28 September 2017

The Inter Europol Competition team is on its way back to the circuit of Spa Francorchamps. After finishing 4th last weekend in the ELMS race at this iconic circuit, the team is now looking for another top finish this coming weekend (30 September – 1 October) in the GT&Protytype Challenge.

Kuba Smiechowski is leading, with the narrow margin of three points, the championship. This weekend the team will bring two LMP3s. Besides the #203 for Smiechowski, the #204 will be driven by regular ELMS driver Martin Hippe and newcomer to the LMP3 class and to the Inter Europol Competition team, Pontus Fredriksson. Fredriksson raced two years the Formula Renault 1.6, one year in a Formula Renault 2.0 and since two years in the Carerra Cup Scandinavia.

Pontus Fredriksson: “I am happy with the chance to race the LMP3 car with the team. I did a test day in one at Magny Cours a little while ago. That was good as for the last two years I have raced in a Porsche which has little downforce. And the downforce in the LMP3 makes it a proper race car. It will be the first time for me to race with a teammate and to have to do a driver change. And to do a one hour race. A lot of firsts this weekend which makes it very exciting and a steep learning curve.”

Martin Hippe: “Spa – Hello again! After a good result in the ELMS last weekend I am happy to be back in the GT&Prototype Challenge this weekend. Because I only did a few races in this championship, the overall result is not the most important thing. However I am really looking forward to help a young driver like Pontus to get a good start to endurance racing. Everything is new to him, but I am pretty sure he will learn very quick and we can achieve a good result together.”
